THE PROJECT: Create a book, to be the first of 7, that would hold Cindy’s collection of photographs that “documents the theatre of children’s daily lives.” Cindy has spent the past 10 years focused on capturing the essence of childhood play and unlike her earlier work, this collection of photographs has led her beyond the maker’s role into the realm of participant. We devised a loose organizing principle for the book—freedom, connection, adventure, transformation, exchange and individuality—and laid in photos that truly could have fit into any of the categories but the result was spontaneous discovery and joyful curiosity.
