A World of Our Own Making

Cover Design | Interior Design & Layout | Art Direction | client: Eric Stark

THE PROJECT: A small collection—two essays and one creative non-fiction piece—written while on a month-long sojourn in Florence in 2024. The author collected experiences and memories in words and photographs and created a hybrid memoir of sorts of his time in Florence.

Book design is an art form that has its foot in five mediums: painting for color; drawing for line; photography for time signatures; sculpture for scale and volume; and performance as the interchange or dialogue between two actors—writer/image-maker and designer. Liz Kalloch as a designer has a unique understanding of this, delivering highly individualized and beautiful books consistently and with extraordinary flare. Working with Liz is like working with a good editor—bringing out the best of what a writer or image-maker has accomplished by presenting it in way that holds true to the content while at the same time subtly holding the attention of the reader with perfectly crafted design nuances and visual flourishes. Liz Kalloch brings an enormous amount of experience to the table, giving her clients the education, the visual resources and the creative energy that every publisher, writer and image-maker needs before creating a book.
