Tools & Talismans #37 Tracey Clark

I begin my weekdays with a simple ritual as a way to mark my work time as sacred. I gather my creative tools & talismans of inspiration; my favorite mug of hot tea, my gratitude journal, a pencil (always a pencil—pen feels too permanent), a bud from my rose bush in my favorite vase, and a collection of natural elements like feathers and rocks. My favorite is the heart shaped rose quartz that my mother gave me. I light a candle (my favorite is a Himalayan salt candle) and begin writing a list of what I’m grateful for. I write until the page is full. I do a little deep breathing and intention setting and then move my little table vignette to whatever table my laptop is at and begin my work. I find that this practice calibrates my head and my heart so that I can be both productive and receptive to whatever inspiration might come.

Tracey Clark, writer, photographer, seeker of light, believer in magic.

Tools & Talismans is a personal painting project where I’m documenting {in watercolor} the tools and talismans of 100 different women — creators and healers, thinkers and makers, wordsmiths and visionaries. Join me for a year of Tools & Talismans — I'll be sharing a new painting with you every Wednesday.

Do you have an illustration project that you think my style might be a good fit for? Looking for illustrations for your website, book project or have something else in mind? Please let me know, I'd love to talk about your project with you!
