Turquoise • The Color Series
My family could only afford to get me the box of eight Crayola crayons, but I craved the one with all 24 colours. I wanted magenta and turquoise and silver and gold. –Joni Mitchell
Turquoise is the exotic sea, the luminous sky and the steadfast stone. It is symbolically the color of compassion, faithfulness and healing.
The name is derived from from the French phrase “Turkish stone” because the first turquoise stones were mined there. The stone has historically been used in many cultures to ward off the evil eye, and the Navajos believed that turquoise was a "fallen piece of sky”.
Turquoise carries the qualities of blue: Deep and dark, light and frothy, dreamy and soulful, transparent and infinite; and green: succulent, verdant, rich new and life enhancing.
The tones of gray, pale turquoise and pink will prevail. –Christian Dior
