Tools & Talismans #5 Jen Lee

Jen Lee and I have gone on many creative adventures together — creating a series of books,  CD packages and DVD covers. Jen's voice is who she is. Jen's stories are the essence of the woman she is. So when I received the photo of her Tools & Talismans, I paused when I saw the watercolor pencils; I paused and thought: oh, right, another aspect of her voice.

I remember wanting a train case for my cameras for a long time before I found this one in a store in a small Colorado town where one of my sisters lives. It reminds me of the past while inviting adventure into the present. This small globe sits on my dresser where I see it every morning and it, too, is an invitation and a beckoning to reach out. To go. My watercolor pencils are for the creative work that is just for me — not to be packaged or shared or sold. Just my own private play that's always ready in a quiet moment.

Tools & Talismans is a personal painting project where I’m documenting {in watercolor} the tools and talismans of 100 different women — creators and healers, thinkers and makers, wordsmiths and visionaries. Join me for a year of Tools & Talismans — I'll be sharing a new painting with you every Wednesday.
