Tools & Talismans #20 Danielle Krysa
As of this painting, scissors are hands down the most often used tool in these collections — after painting my 7th pair of scissors I started wondering who invented the scissors; and is the correct usage scissor or scissors? I’ve heard both. It's funny the things I find myself thinking about while working on these paintings, but I had to follow up and apparently (if Wikipedia can be believed here), scissors were invented around 1500 BC in ancient Egypt.
I can see all of the objects from my desk in my home office, where i sit every day. I love bright pops of color — neon at the moment — because they brighten my space and make me happy! I spend a lot of time on my phone, and writing “notes to self” on sticky notes. In fact, sometimes there are so many neon notes that I can’t see straight! That’s when it’s time to step away from the computer, so I like to have my collage scissors and bits and pieces to cut (obsessed with roses at the moment). And finally, sitting on a side table just to my left, I have this small jar of vintage glitter. It’s from the 1940s and it belonged to my great grandmother who was also an artist. I love having it close by, as it always reminds me of the creative women in my life.
